Tim Sway - New Perspectives Music
Tim Sway is a Connecticut-based artist who works exclusively with reclaimed and sustainable materials.
After a 15+ year career as a recording and performing musician, Tim “retired” from music to make tangible art and wares from reclaimed and sustainable materials - to “Make Worthless Things Priceless.”
But making trendy, barn wood coffee tables and wall art was too static. His journey brought him back to music as he now (mostly) makes custom guitars and basses from “trash” and eco-ethical materials.
“Guitars are the perfect outlet for my work. I can turn trash into art that lives on to make more art in the hands of musicians. This is truly a net-positive trajectory,” says Tim Sway.
Tim continues to develop inventive and eco-conscious approaches to guitar making and the business surrounding it, including building a solar-powered micro-store and stage in the back of a step van and developing other music-related products in ethical and environmental ways.
He shares his journey at YouTube.com/TimSway and www.NewPerspectivesMusic.com.
Proceeds from Tim’s portion of the Great Guitar Build Off will benefit the Arbor Day Foundation.

Ben Crowe - Crimson Guitars
Ben started building guitars in a garage in Chichester while studying the building of early stringed musical instruments at the prestigious West Dean College. After finding the early music scene a little too conservative for his taste, Ben started to concentrate on building truly custom instruments and, in 2005 Crimson Guitars was founded in a small workshop just outside Dorchester on the UK’s beautiful south coast.
After building instruments with such luminaries of the guitar world as Robert Fripp, Charlie Jones and Jakko Jakszyk among others and after a few workshop moves, Ben started filming video tutorials and also making luthiers tools. These two new aspects brought Crimson to a much wider audience and Ben’s videos now rack up over half a million views every month. Additionally our hand made luthiers tools are helping to create guitars all around the world.

Tchiks Guitar & Furniture
I’m a 34 year old father of two from Brussels (Belgium), who started learning woodworking 3 years ago with the ambition of replacing all the Ikea items in my house with handmade furniture and using traditional joinery. It all went as planned until I got slightly side-tracked by that whole guitar making/Youtube thing. That was after I made my first instrument ever 15 months ago. Since then, I’ve been documenting every single guitar project I made, showing my learning curve to the world, with long silent videos, only punctuated by my daughter’s perpetual nonsense and very intentional woodworking ASMR.
I’m mostly known as the “Shelf Guitar Guy”, but I think it’s unfair, I also make a pretty decent mayonnaise.
